How to unleash your creative advantage

Creativity is not just reserved for “our art practice”.

Do you find yourself separating your making and marketing and leaving out creativity?

Well my friends applying creativity to every part of our life will only help us solve problems easier.

And what if I told you that by applying creativity to all aspects of your life, you can solve problems more effectively, find joy in everyday tasks, and even enhance your business?

Additionally, when we think creatively in our lives and business it can help us to achieve our goals by providing us with the inspiration and motivation we need to pursue them.
When we engage in creative activities that we enjoy, we feel more energized and motivated to take action towards our objectives. This can help us to stay focused and dedicated, even when we face setbacks or obstacles along the way.

Isn’t that freaking awesome?!

In this blog post, we’ll explore the power of creative thinking and how it can revolutionize your life. Yep. I am for real.

Develop a Creative Mindset: Cultivate a mindset that embraces creativity.

This involves being open to new ideas, being curious, and challenging your assumptions.

If you think creativity is only useful in the studio…think again.

The first step to applying creativity in all areas of your life is to shift your mindset. Rather than seeing the things you hate doing most or seeing obstacles as roadblocks, learn to see them as opportunities for innovation.

When you encounter a challenge or a task you find super frustrating, ask yourself: “How can I approach this differently? What unique solutions can I come up with?” By reframing the problem in a creative light, you open yourself up to new ways of thinking.

You can also think about how you can more effectively write your social media content.

Practice Creativity Daily:

Engage and apply creativity to all areas of your business on a daily basis. This could be anything from drawing, writing, cooking, or even brainstorming new marketing ideas.

One area where creative problem solving can be particularly useful is in your business.

Whether you’re a painter, potter, woodworker, textile designer, sculptor, lighting designer, metalsmith or even an interior designer, you likely face a variety of challenges on a daily basis and who says you can’t apply creativity to your finances or even how your studio is set up…

When it comes to finances, creativity can help us find new ways to make and save money.
For example, we can think creatively about how we market our products or services, or we can explore new revenue streams.
By approaching our finances with an open and creative mindset, we can discover opportunities that we might otherwise miss.

If you dread doing your taxes, try approaching them creatively. Create a fun and colorful spreadsheet or set a timer to see how quickly you can finish. By injecting a bit of creativity into the task, you may find that it becomes more interesting and enjoyable.

Creativity also plays a crucial role in developing systems, whether it is for our business or our personal life. We can use creativity to come up with new strategies that streamline our workflows or make us more organized.

A creative approach can help us discover innovative solutions to problems that we might not have thought possible before.

Collaborate with Others:

Collaborating with others can bring fresh perspectives and help you see things from different angles.

Another area where creativity can be beneficial is in your relationships.

Business or personal relationships can benefit from a little creative application. Use your creative skills to plan unique date nights, make personalized gifts, or find new and exciting ways to bond with your loved ones. By approaching your relationships with creativity, you can strengthen your connections and make memories that last a lifetime.

Think of ways you can be creative in business relationships too.
Plan a giveaway with another creative that adds to your mix.
Think of ways you can network collaborate or plan local creative meet ups.

There are even apps for that these days:

In our personal lives, creativity can help us maintain a healthy work-life harmony.

By being more creative, we can find new ways to enjoy our time outside of work, such as pursuing hobbies or spending time with friends and family.

Making time for creativity in our personal lives can bring us lasting benefits, such as improved mental health and increased happiness.

Find Creative Solutions:

When faced with a problem, try to come up with creative solutions. This involves thinking outside the box and considering all possible options.

My husband is often annoyed by my brain. We are currently in the middle of a renovation and I am always thinking 15 steps ahead. I have a tendency to think through every possible problem or solution.
It annoys my husband in the beginning but he always appreciates the end result. I love using creative thinking and applying it to every area of my own life.

Here are some tips to help you come up with even more creative solutions when faced with a problem:

  1. Brainstorm without limitations: When brainstorming possible solutions, don't hold back any ideas, no matter how crazy or impractical they may seem at first. Write down everything that comes to mind, and then evaluate the ideas later.
  2. Consider different perspectives: Try to view the problem from different angles and perspectives. Think about how someone else might approach the problem, or how it might be solved in a different context.
  3. Use analogies and metaphors: Sometimes, comparing the problem to something completely different can help you see it in a new light and come up with fresh solutions.
  4. Break the problem down into smaller parts: If the problem seems overwhelming, try breaking it down into smaller, more manageable pieces. This can make it easier to find solutions and also help you see the problem in a new light.
  5. Experiment and try new things: Don't be afraid to experiment with new ideas and approaches, even if they seem risky or unconventional. Sometimes, the most creative solutions come from trying something completely different.

Remember, creativity is all about thinking outside the box and considering all possible options. By embracing your creative thinking skills, you can come up with innovative and effective solutions to even the most challenging problems.

Embrace Your Uniqueness:

Embrace your unique qualities and use them to your advantage. Don't be afraid to be different or unconventional.

When it comes to creating handmade products, our creativity is essential to standing out in a crowded market. By experimenting with new materials, techniques, and styles, we can create unique and engaging products that customers love.

To embrace your uniqueness and creativity, here are some tips:
  1. Identify your strengths and unique qualities: Take the time to reflect on what sets you apart from others. Think about your skills, experiences, and personality traits that make you unique. Once you've identified them, use them to your advantage. I even wrote about how to discover what makes you different in this blog here.

  2. Try new things: Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. Experiment with new materials, techniques, and styles in your creative endeavors. This can help you discover new ways of doing things and spark new ideas.

  3. Don't compare yourself to others: It's easy to fall into the trap of comparing your work and your life to others, but this can be detrimental to your creativity. Remember that everyone has their own unique path, and your journey is yours alone. Unless you are actively doing a competitive analysis don't take yourself down this hole. It just leaves you feeling well, like crap.

  4. Embrace mistakes and failures: Creativity involves taking risks, and not every idea will be a success. Don't be afraid to make mistakes or experience failures along the way. These experiences can help you learn and grow.

  5. Surround yourself with inspiration: Seek out inspiration in the world around you. This can be through reading, attending events, or simply spending time in nature. By surrounding yourself with inspiration, you can fuel your creativity and stay motivated.

Remember that creativity is a journey, not a destination. Embracing your uniqueness and creativity is an ongoing process, and it's important to be patient and persistent in your pursuit of it. With practice and dedication, you can tap into your creativity and create amazing things.

Incorporating creativity into your life is not always easy, but it’s worth the effort. By adopting a creative mindset, you can solve problems more effectively, discover new ways of thinking, and even find joy in everyday tasks.

Whether you’re an artist or a business owner, there’s no limit to what you can achieve when you unleash your creative potential.

Unleashing YOUR creative potential is a personal journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
By embracing YOUR creative mindset, leveraging YOUR uniqueness, and applying creative thinking to all aspects of YOUR life, YOU can unlock extraordinary potential, achieve personal and professional fulfillment, and make a profound impact.
Embrace the journey of unleashing YOUR creative potential and open the door to a life filled with innovation, joy, and lasting success.
